With the start of March comes the beginning of lots of spring weddings. This time of year, our team at DeWeese Design Salon Inc. starts to see a lot of brides-to-be, looking for consultations for wedding hairstyles.
These lovely ladies always have plenty of questions, but here are a few that you should make sure to ask during your consultation—whether it’s with us or anyone else.
How much does it cost?
It may sound like a silly question to begin with, but it’s the exact right way to start the ball rolling. It’s definitely something to know right off the bat, because if the stylist costs more than what you’ve included in your wedding budget to spend on beauty services, you won’t want to waste your (or their) time and have you heart set on a “hair trial”, or seeing previous work that the stylist has done. However, if the price sounds good to you, go for it!
Do you provide a “hair trial”?
Most hair stylists do offer a hair trial, but it’s always good to ask just to make sure. After all, it’s your wedding day hair. Sometimes even when you find a photo of the perfect style, it doesn’t quite fit your face in a flattering way. It’s always best to “test” it first. Your actual wedding day is not the time to be experimenting. That’s why a hair trial is important. Be sure to ask if the trial is an extra fee, or if it’s included in the total cost.
Do you provide makeup services as well?
Lots of brides prefer to go with a vendor that also includes makeup services. This makes things more convenient (fewer contracts, fewer locations to go to, etc.) It’s a good thing to know, just so you have options.
Can you also do my bridal party’s hair?
This is a very important question to ask the stylist or salon. Most salons do offer this service, but they’ll need to know if you want it in order to plan accordingly so that they have time to take care of everyone. If you’re interested in this service, make sure to ask things such as the cost for each bridesmaid; if flower girls or mother-of-the-bride are discounted; if the cost changes based on what type of hairstyle is chosen, etc. Having everyone’s hair done together is often a smart decision, since it ensures continuity—and it’s also just fun to do together!
Are you able to come to the wedding venue?
Many brides prefer the stylist(s) to come to the wedding site because it’s less stressful and more fun. Instead of stopping at a salon before the wedding venue, some find it more relaxing to already be at the venue and not have to travel in a car with their wedding hair. Ask the stylist you’re considering if they’re able to accommodate this need if it’s important to you. You should also ask if you’ll need to cover their travel cost—especially if they’re traveling a distance.
